I thought this week I’d take a break from Christmas cards. Not because I have run out of inspiration or motivation, but because the sunshine made me think of other things, especially the seaside and holidays.
So I had a rummage and pulled out the Beneath the Waves stamp set and embossing folder by Stampendous, which came with Creative Stamping 97. I’ve played with some of the stamps before, but not the embossing folder, and I had a flick through the magazine for a bit of inspiration.
I did want to have a go at the sanding technique, to remove ink from the raised waves, but naturally I couldn’t find any sandpaper, and the nail file I did find really wasn’t big enough. Or very good. Also, I don’t have very many blue or purple inks of the sort needed (pigment). So I left it as it was and made a note to get some sandpaper at some point.
For the background I used various Memento blues – Teal, Bahama, and Danube – and some of the purple Elderberry at the bottom. The dolphins I stamped in the Teal, and then coloured using some blue-grey pens. And then I scattered some gems, because why not? Besides, the sea needed a bit of sparkle.
I haven’t decided what sort of card this will be, hence no sentiment as yet, but probably either a birthday or a just-because.
