With just under two months to go before Christmas, now is the time most card-makers will begin to panic about Christmas cards. Unless they’re the extra organised sorts of people who have already made all their festive cards. Some crafters might be thinking about making gifts, although those take longer so should have been started a while back.
For once, I’m feeling very little panic about my Christmas cards. Partly this is because I only have a couple left for the list I know I need, and then I can just play with festive stamps and dies to make spares. Because there’s always at least one person you forget or who pops up out of the woodwork for whom you suddenly, at the last minute, need a card.
My attention is beginning to turn to the other crafty, and not-so-crafty, aspects of Christmas. Decorations and baking. Preparing for all eventualities, especially with regards the potential return of some or all Covid-reducing measures, like not being allowed to mix with other households. Which would be sad, but not the end of the world. (We’ve ordered a turkey, just in case, and have started sampling the festive foods on offer.)
I’m trying not to go too overboard with the festive food planning. Mostly, I’m being guided by the fact that last year I drew up a great long list of recipes and then only made one or two. The one I will start with, though, is the Spiced Orange and Cranberry Cheesecake, which last year I made using the Hummingbird Bakery’s New York Cheesecake as the base recipe. M thought that a bit rich, so this year I shall try it with Delia Smith’s Baked Vanilla Cheesecake instead.
And then maybe I’ll have a go at making panettone. Maybe. The Aldi chocolate panettone is pretty good.
