This is the time of year when I like lighting candles. I light them all year round, usually because they give the room a nice scent, but as the nights start drawing in, and it’s cold and dark and a bit yucky outside, they also give the room a warm and friendly sort of feel.
It’s one of the reasons I like the candle-in-a-wreath sorts of Christmas designs, like this Hobbycraft cross-stitch kit I picked up either last year or the year before. Not that I knew exactly what I’d do with it when I was finished, and it took me about a week to work it out when I did finally sit down to use it on a card.
And, in the end, I used these corner stamps from the Daisy Mae Stained Glass stamp set which came with Creative Stamping 89 last year, to make a window frame around the candle.
I heat-embossed them, coloured the edges and poinsettias, used a clear opalescent pen (which doesn’t really show in the photo) to colour the non-stained-glass bits of the windows, and had fun positioning them around the candle. And I’m quite pleased with the result, if I do say so myself.
