This Week In Crafts: Winter Scenes

One of my favourite stamp sets from last year’s festive magazines was the Stampendous Winter Stags set, from Creative Stamping 90.

It was an ideal stamp and stencil set for quick, last minute cards, for the people you’d forgotten or because you were making cards up until the last posting day. I still love it, along with the Daisy Mae Stained Glass stamp set from issue 89.

This time of playing, I’ve had a go at adapting one of the design suggestions from the magazine (by Teresa Morgan), using the stag stencil, mask, and tree stamp.

Not being a fancy-card sort of maker, though, I skipped the ovals and pretty backing paper and such what, and had a go for a simple A6 card. I also don’t currently have any blue Distress Oxides, so I substituted with a couple of Memento blues – Summer Sky and Paris Dusk – for the central image. I think it works well with the less opaque centre. When I eventually get the suggested Distress Oxides, I’ll try again and see which way I prefer.

And then I had another go with the tree stencil and mask, with the deer family stamped across. I’m not yet sure what sort of festive greeting should be added at present, but I’m very pleased with how they turned out. I think a dark blue background or card blank would be right for them, perhaps a couple of gems for a little sparkle.

Just need to practise the Picked Raspberry edging, so I’m not quite so heavy-handed in places. And stamping over the stencils.
