One thing I like about this time of year is watching for the swallows to return. They tell me that winter’s over, and that long, lazy summer evenings are just around the corner.
The rainbow colours, too, are cheerful and optimistic. Full of hope. Which is probably what most of us need right now. Although, I’m actually quite enjoying being stuck at home. I have so many projects and things to be getting on with, and so much more time and energy than normal!
This cross-stitch pattern was in CrossStitcher 293, and it’s been stitched on 28-count linen. I hadn’t done much linen or evenweave work before this piece, and it showed me the possibilities. And how easy fractionals are when you don’t have to fight with the aida. The only problem, I find, is that I have to concentrate more when I’m counting, which does rather take the fun out of it.
The pattern reckons it takes 20 hours to complete. I took it a swallow (or two) an evening, and completed it in less than a month. And then I ironed it, and stretched it over a canvas, and now it hangs on the wall.
These are so delicate, gorgeous!
